Hurricane Gustav

by fabooj
Sun Aug 31st, 2008 at 01:13:52 AM EST

This is going to be pretty short and too the point.

There's been mandatory evacuations called for New Orleans.  During a presser earlier in the day, Mayor Nagin and Gov. Jindal made it expressly clear that there will be no government provided shelters for those who choose to stay/can not afford to leave their homes. Or in Nagin's words, '"You're on your own."

Many of my remaining family members are already gone.  I've heard from friends (online and meatspace) whose families have fled already, as Gustav is being called as worse than Katrina.  I believe we all know that he levees will not withstand anything over a Cat3 storm, so this is pretty big.  Let's hope that Gustav loses strength before it makes landfall.  There's already been 78 deaths in the Caribbean.  I pray there's no more.

Oh, those San Francisco Liberals

by fabooj
Fri Apr 18th, 2008 at 01:37:09 AM EST

x-posted from my blog.

One of the biggest jokes of the past week has been how Sen. Clinton tosses off "San Francisco" as if it's a dirty word.  We shouldn't expect much from one half of a couple who spent an inordinate amount of time running away from the "liberal" tag just because the scary old Republicans tried to turn it into a playground taunt.  Still, Clinton does have her supporters in San Francisco, so the way she's been denigrating the Obama supporters who heard his truthful remarks and comparing them to "real" people, is so much GOP bullshit.

The out of touch media dorks were oh-so-quick to give a shout out to their blue-collar upbringings...well, that is the blue collar cities where they were born (near), though many of them are trustafarians who were raised in a different area.  Their experiences with blue collar workers has either been ordering them around or getting their asses beat by them.  The way they condescend bears this out.  Keep in mind that these were people who were telling us that blue collar workers have no idea what arugla is.

Insulting.

Yippee more debates! More Hillary Healthcare Hour

by fabooj
Thu Mar 13th, 2008 at 06:15:48 PM EST

x-posted from faboo mama As The Commenter Formerly Known as NCSteve over at TPM said:
Damn, are they running out of money again?

h/t to TPM on this one..that's right...the Clinton's hate you so much they begged for another debate.  The Obama campaign, not be outdone said, "I see your Pennsylvania and raise you North Carolina."

Two more debates.

22 debates total.

That's ear-bleeding, zombie-turning dullness right there.  If Clinton hijacks the debate with her healthcare plan again, I hope someone gongs her ass.

Geraldine Ferraro speaks out

by fabooj
Mon Feb 25th, 2008 at 09:59:01 PM EST

cross-posted at faboo mama And in keeping in line with the Clinton's insulting voters at every turn, superdelegate, Ms. Ferraro tells us that voters don't represent rank-and-file Democrats:
Besides, the delegate totals from primaries and caucuses do not necessarily reflect the will of rank-and-file Democrats. Most Democrats have not been heard from at the polls. We have all been impressed by the turnout for this year's primaries -- clearly both candidates have excited and engaged the party's membership -- but, even so, turnout for primaries and caucuses is notoriously low. It would be shocking if 30 percent of registered Democrats have participated.

You're looking a little green.  Go ahead and spit out that bile in your mouth.  I know how it is.  It's kind of sad that a former Vice Presidential candidate went that far.  That with record turnout at the polls and at caucuses, Ferraro had decided that dismissing all those people participating in democracy was a good idea.  This goes to show that Team Clinton really did expect a coronation.  Like it's the voters or Barack Obama's fault the Clinton's can't run a national campaign.

Molly Ivins Wasn't for Clinton

by fabooj
Wed Feb 13th, 2008 at 07:49:10 PM EST

Since I never diary, I thought I'd do so.  I posted this on my blog on the 4th, so forgive me if somethings are outdated:

h/t to CosmicWheel for this bit of interestingness. I'm even going to quote the same part he did:

AUSTIN, Texas --- I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.

Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges.

That's Molly Ivin's intro to her 2006 piece titled I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.  I think the title says it all, don't you.  Ms. Ivins has always been known for her straight talk on the issues and I'm trying to think back to an article of hers that where I disagreed.  Not that I've read all of her articles, but those that I have, she's always been on the money.
