by Arthur Gilroy I personally do not celebrate Thanksgiving. Not unless I am forced to do so by social and familial necessities, and even then I am just going through the motions. I cannot bring myself to celebrate a successful enslavement and genocide, no matter what the end result may have been for my own Celtic immigrant ancestors who had themselves been enslaved first in a Roman-dominated and then a Germanic-dominated Northern Europe. Can't see it. Besides...I don't like turkey nor I do not much like being stuffed like a turkey, either. Last night I ate brown rice, a bean dish cooked with a little chicken sausage, onions and cheese, and collard greens. It was wonderful. Then I went back to working at what I do. That was wonderful, too. Read on for more. Read more... (6 comments, 609 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
Palin, Amazingly, Takes Prank Call from 'Sarkozy' This "prank call". That she could accept this guy as the real thing scares me more that her witch hunter pals. From the first few seconds where he mentions something about his "special advisor Johnny Hallyday" through to where he says how much he loves killing those animals...how can she miss it? It scares me two ways. One...her utter stupidity. Two...If she is NOT simply being stupid, that means that she is immured to this kind of idiocy coming from people in high places. I do not know which possibility frightens me most. Y'know what's even more scary? Some substantial percentage of the American public thinks that she is something special. We are SO fucked!!! Even if Obama wins in a landslide, these people will continue pulling us down more effectively than cement boots on a a mob murder victim. Deep. I dunno what to do. I really don't. I'm past laughing. I know that for sure. Later.... AG Comments >> (22 comments) by Arthur Gilroy
This just HAS to be posted.
You may have noticed that I have been pushing an evolutionary meme recently regarding the election and the general state of America on all levels. Long story short? Scientists are beginning to think that "evolution" is not so much a gradual process but rather one that conforms more to the quantum leap concept. The idea seems to be that environmental stresses tend to produce rapid changes. (See Origins: A General Mechanism of Evolution Based on Stress Protein Concentration and Rapid Environmental Change for more on this idea.) Society and culture ARE environment. This election is the first time that the new...species for want of a better word...has shown some sort of majority status here in the U.S. But the old guys are still here. In spades.
Bet on it. From a University of Texas poll:
Poll finds 23% of Texans think Obama is Muslim UH oh!!! Read on for more. Read more... (1 comment, 394 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
I find it necessary today to once again repost some articles that I wrote regarding the media hustle that is going on in favor of the Big Fix currently in progress here in this great Untied Straits of Enronica.
The BIG Fix.
Bet on it. Business by any means necessary. Almost everyone on the leftiness blogs is going batshit happy over Obama's miraculously meteoric rise to power here. Justice Prevails!!! scream the headlines. Out With The Old, In With The New!!! But...wait a minute, here!!! I will readily admit that Barack Obama is a breath of fresh air in the foetid atmosphere of American politics. He possesses intelligence, charisma, self-control and eloquence to spare. He is the Anti-Bush. But...his stated policies are not very "progressive" at all. Not by my standards they are not. Practical? OH yes. He is a masterfully practical politician. But progressive? HELL no!!! Read on for more. Read more... (6 comments, 2667 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
Booman recently wrote a short piece titled Palin's Snakebit Hockey Mom Routine. It was about Sarah Palin's recent misadventure in St. Louis, where St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace suffered a hip flexor injury that occurred when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for America's favorite hockey mom so that she could perform a ceremonial dropping of the puck without herself slipping and possibly bruising her precious, Neiman-Marcus-sheathed little ass.
Booman ended the piece with the words "Do you believe in Mojo?" Now as you may or may not know I have been writing a great deal about Sarah Palin's connection with an extremist Christian, Taliban-like movement known as "The Third Wave" or "Joshua's Army", among other names. ( Sarah Palin And Her Demon-Possessed Witchunters might be a good place to start if you have not read about this phenomenon. Or go to dogemperor's page over at Daily Kos to be truly frightened and amazed by it. This woman is the butter-wouldn't-melt-in-her-mouth front for a truly nasty scene. Hitler-level nasty. Check it out.) Anyway...this "Do you believe in Mojo?" question got me to thinking. Read on for more if you so desire. Read more... (5 comments, 1351 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy ![]() Bet on it. Poll: Obama Grabs Lead In Deep-Red Georgia For the first time ever, a new poll has Barack Obama ahead of John McCain in Georgia, on the heels of a recent trend that showed the race tightening here. The new numbers from InsiderAdvantage: Obama 48%, McCain 47%, within the ±3.8% margin of error. On the one hand, this poll could be an outlier. But other recent polls have shown McCain ahead by only two to eight points in this deep-red state, and the gap has narrowed from previous larger McCain leads. From the pollster's analysis: "While this is a tight race, the problem for McCain is that all but 3 percent of whites have made their decision and approximately 8 percent of black voters have continued to say they are undecided or voting 'other.' This will likely move closer to 95 percent for Obama when all said and done. Obama has room to go up."The crux of the matter? It's a New Old South. Read on for more. Read more... So way back on Sept. 30th I wrote a piece debunking the whole "Economic Collapse" thing as just another blown up lightweight that the cosmic fight promoters were touting as the next "Let's keep the peons scared" routine. ECONOMIC COLLAPSE!!! HOTTEST THING EVER!!! (v. MMDCLXXIV++++) Headlines today? (10/14/08, 8:25 AM EDT) A scant two weeks after we were all headed over the cliff of Hottest Thing Everville?
WILL STOCKS ROCK TUESDAY?...
US to pump $250 billion into banks Hmmmm.... MIRABILE DICTU!!! Wonderful to relate!!! Somehow...it all worked out in the end. PHEW!!! I was SO WORRIED!!! (Not.) The fix is always in, folks. As my wise old grandfather (the real Arthur Gilroy) always used to say "Relax, kiddo. Everything gets better except the last thing, and if it's the last thing your worries are over. Siddown. (3 comments, 998 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy ![]() Jeff Huber recently posted another one of his fine articles regarding the total incompetence of American leadership. In that piece, he wrote the following:
Now, it's virtually impossible for another 9/11 to happen; some of those sorry slobs are doing their jobs for a change because they know they'll lose them if another 9/11 happens. This got me to thinking, and I began a reply that turned into a stand-alone piece. Here it is. Read more... (6 comments, 1361 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
THIS badly.
Today's NY Daily News front page. I walked past a newsstand and had to do a double take. Now...the Daily News has drifted a little to the left over the past several years, pushed there as much by the Faux News-like screeching of the NY Post as by anything else. And also by the ever-changing racial demographic of the lower middle class in general in NYC, of course. But still...no one is ever going to confuse it with The Daily Worker. Or even the NY Times/Washingtoon Post/Newsweak/Faux News Left group. But there it is in black, white. red, blue and yellow.
LOW BLOW! Coupled with the words "McCain" + "desperate" + "attempt". Complete with an exclamation point. It's all over but the voting. Read more... (11 comments, 360 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
I no am no longer sure that I am capable of expressing the horror that I feel at what happened this Wednesday night at the Biden/Palin debate and the subsequent reaction of the American media.
Sarah Palin is driving the news. The operational ideas that are now in effect regarding the Palin candidacy are:
Call me anything, but call me often.-Mae West and
Write about me what you will, but spell my name right. (Universal wisdom amongst press agents.) Sarah Palin is being marketed as a celebrity candidate...the representative from Paris Hilton/Miley Cyrus-land...and it is working!!!
I would not be in the least bit surprised should McCain again begin to fall in the polls...there is a noticeable bounce today from Palin's triumphant Thursday survival, if you haven't noticed...to see leaked pictures of her flashing her pudenda while getting out of a car or having a "wardrobe malfunction". I thought that American politics had fallen as low as it could go when Nixon ran. I then revised my estimate when I witnessed Reagan's rise. I further lowered my expectations when I watched Bush II's two campaigns...I mean, he made even poor old, doddering Reagan look like some sort of communication genius...but now they have sunk to absolute rock-bottom, sub-sub-basement levels. The walking corpse of McCain and some housewife/tomboy/bimbo are running an effective campaign against a Senator who is possibly the most eloquent public speaker that we have seen in America in about 150 years and a 35+ year Senate veteran who is a real governmental pro. The dumbing down of America has finally achieved its goal. Read more... (8 comments, 473 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
I really do not know why, but every time I look at Sarah Palin I am reminded of the woman who is featured in the Planter's Peanut commercial.
YOU know...the homely woman who scents herself with Planter's peanuts and becomes magically irresistble to men?
(Gotta love that actress in the commercial, by the way. The last hike of her underwear as she walks down the street is priceless low comedy. Shakespeare would have hired her in a Stratford minute. Bet on it.) I don't know why, but I cannot help sensing the existence some kind of Star Trek-like Romulan cloaking device at work here. My son and I were falling off of our chairs laughing last night during the debate (Yes, I watched it. I am a sucker for comedy.), and yet here we are the next day reading article after article about how well she "handled herself." LORD!!! She was a total disaster on any rational level of observation. In a reply to a comment that I made on Booman's post A Kaleidoscope Vote, Booman responded by calling me a "Jacobin".
Here is the phrase to which he was responding:
Fuck it. Whole hog plus postage. Let the goddamned thing fall and then maybe we will be able to start over clean again. And here is my response to both his position and the position of the bailout supporters in general. Read on if you are interested. Or...just go turn on your TV and then go peacefully back to sleep. If you do so you will certainly be in the majority. Read more... (11 comments, 1244 words in story) by Arthur Gilroy
